Freelance Drama Practitioners Windrush Stories: Portraits & Voices

June 2026

Arts Bridge Charity is looking for three freelance drama practitioners to join us for a major new intergenerational arts project this June. If you have experience delivering drama workshops in primary schools and a passion for heritage, community storytelling and creative education, we would love to hear from you.

About the project

Windrush Stories: Portraits and Voices brings together 150 Year 5 pupils from two primary schools in Tottenham and Luton with 30 Windrush Generation elders. Pupils will develop skills in interview techniques and creative storytelling before meeting elders in facilitated interview sessions. The stories and experiences they gather will be transformed into original performance, poetry, movement and song, culminating in a public event on Windrush Day, 22 June 2026 at Jacksons Lane arts centre in London.

The project is led by Amanda Bright, Founder and Director of Arts Bridge Charity, with portrait photography by Steve Bright, Portrait of Britain 2024 winner.

Three roles available

Role A: Welbourne Primary, Tottenham London-based. Welbourne Primary School lead throughout. 12 sessions across 8 to 17 June.

Role B: Dallow Primary, Luton London-based, travelling to Luton from 10 June. Dallow Primary School lead. 12 sessions across 8 to 17 June.

Role C: Dallow Primary, Luton Luton-based preferred. Dallow Primary School support throughout. 11 sessions across 8 to 17 June.

All three roles include a planning session in the week commencing 1 June and a creative devising phase on 18 and 19 June.

What you will deliver

  • Whole-school 45-minute drama-based Windrush workshops across all year groups at your base school (8 to 12 June)

  • Year 5 upskilling workshops in interview techniques (15 June)

  • Facilitation of intergenerational interview sessions, with 150 pupils interviewing 30 Windrush Generation elders (17 June)

  • Creative devising sessions, supporting pupils to develop original performance pieces using portrait and interview material (18 to 19 June)

Fees

Whole-school workshops: £65 per hour (45-minute sessions) Upskilling workshops and interview facilitation: £75 per hour Planning session: £75 per hour Estimated total: £858 to £1,050 depending on role

Practitioners are engaged as freelancers and invoice ABC at the end of each delivery phase. Travel expenses are not included in session fees.

What we are looking for

Essential Minimum three years experience delivering drama or performing arts workshops with primary school pupils Confident leading sessions independently with groups of 15 to 30 pupils Valid enhanced DBS certificate Safeguarding training completed within the last two years Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Desirable Experience working with intergenerational or community arts projects Knowledge of or personal connection to Windrush history and Black British heritage Experience facilitating interview-based or oral history projects Luton-based or strong connections to Luton (for Role C)
